We’re oft treated to stars looking done up both on and off the red carpet, but this year has ushered in a new look for Hollywood’s A-list: the make-under. Lady Gaga’s evolution from meat dress to streamlined sophisticate was guided by stylist and designer Brandon Maxwell, Sienna Miller eschewed her boho queen rootsto rule as a minimal master, and the latest addition to the ranks is pop star Selena Gomez, who forwent her usual festival style staples in favor of a sculptural, artfully tailored dress from J.W.Anderson.
The latte-toned leather dress features an oversize buckle, and its wrap style could be considered the modern interpretation of DVF’s iconic frock for the millennial set. Hugging Gomez’s lithe frame in a feminine shell, the frock provides a youthful touch courtesy of its gracefully rounded hems finished off via strappy stilettos for a point of contrast and leg-lengthening, subtle sophistication. One thing is for sure: If this look is the new direction of Gomez’s style, she’s sure to head to the top of the charts.
