The invitations have been issued, the instructions received and pored over. Clutching our “government-issued identification,” we, the Victoria’s Secret virgins of London, will be arriving for our first eyeful of Angels next Tuesday night. Amid what sounds like tighter security than Buckingham Palace, the American lingerie giants are invading the cavernous Earls Court exhibition center to unveil this fresh aspect of U.S. culture before English society. Still, there’s one section of the event where London will get its chance to show its finest right back to America. That glory belongs to East London homeboy Nasir Mazhar, who’s designed costumes for the University of PINK segment of the show. As glimpsed here in a fitting on Jacquelyn Jablonski in New York City, Mazhar explains, his, er, brief. “She’s a college girl who likes hip-hop and R&B. A kitsch cutie!” Right up his street, as it happens. “I did a cropped nylon puffa and a skirt almost like a little ski suit. And, he warns, “Look out for the beaded marabou pom-pom arm garters!” Will do, Nasir. Eyes peeled and ready.
